Abstract
Drought, floods, and extreme heat impact farmers in the developing world far more than those in developed markets. At the same time, traditional crop insurance is too costly to deliver in emerging markets due to underwriting, distribution, and claim-handling costs, leaving subsistence farmers exposed to unforeseen events that can lead to financial ruin. It is estimated that over $1 trillion worth of crops are uninsured globally each year.
By leveraging smart contracts and climate data, Arbol is able to offer weather coverage triggered by real-world climate events to deliver a transparent and scalable insurance solution to farmers.
